New findings on Overt or Covert Bullying: a problem that must be confronted.

A recent report on bullying in the workplace by the Chartered Management Institute suggests that poor management skills lie at the heart of the bullying behaviour and that employers are failing in their duty of care to their staff.

Recent government figures also estimate that workplace bullying costs the UK economy £13.75 bn per year, with 100M days lost in productivity, essentially due to:

- Low employee morale
- Increased staff turnover
- Increased stress-related illness and absence
- Damage to the organisation’s reputation
- Management time and legal costs through compensation claims and tribunals

Of those experiencing bullying, more than 1 in 3 report that no action was taken by their organisation!

These figures alone show how not addressing this inappropriate behaviour can have worrying long term consequences, particularly for organisational performance.
